The Right Way To Receive The Precious Blood Of Jesus At Holy Mass
We believe as Catholics that at every Mass the simple bread and wine are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit into the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus.
But do we need to receive both species, namely the Eucharist and the Precious Blood in order to receive ALL of Jesus?
Today Fr. Mike explains the practice of intinction, dipping the Holy Eucharist into the chalice of the Precious Blood and when its a bad idea and when it may be appropriate.

The Most Precious Blood Of Jesus Is Celebrated At Gethsemane
On Friday 1 July, the celebration of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus opened with the songVexilla Regis in the Basilica of the Agony in Jerusalem. On exactly the same site where the Lord sweated blood on the night he was betrayed, the Custos of the Holy Land, Fr. Francesco Patton, ofm, guided the friars in a procession from the garden of Gethsemane to the Basilica, where he presided the solemn mass.
The song dedicated to the cross, the royal banner on which Christ shed his blood, accompanied the ritual sprinkling of rose petals on the rock which recalls the agony of Jesus, placed in front of the altar.
Worship of the Most Precious Blood, recalling the transformation of the wine into the blood of Christ during mass, is closely related to Eucharistic devotion. The Eucharist expresses the gift of the body and of the blood that Jesus made to save us from death and to introduce us into divine life.
In his homily, the Father Custos went over the readings which marked the liturgy of the Word, pointing out how they propose a path of reflection in which blood is always present: first of all in the ancient Easter, which expresses the dramatic meaning of the blood of the lamb sprayed on the door jambs, then the one quoted in the Apocalypse, on the robes made sheer white by the blood of the Lamb and, lastly, in the account by the evangelist Luke: He was in such agony and he prayed so fervently that his sweat became like drops of blood falling on the ground.”

What Does God Expect Of Us Once We Are Sprinkled With The Blood Of Jesus

Are we obligated in any way by this sprinkling? Yes very much so! If we have been sprinkled by the blood of Jesus, we are commanded to do two things:
1. We are to go in peace and doubt no more!
When Moses sprinkled blood on the sinning Israelites, they never once doubted they were pardoned and accepted by God. They trusted in that sprinkling!
Today, the blood sprinkled on us is not that of bulls, goats or sheep but of Christ, the Lamb of God. And yet we have more doubt, more fear than those Israelites!
2. We are to praise God with a thankful heart never doubting!
We are commanded to thank God for the precious blood of Jesus, with high praises:
- “…we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement” .
- “Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart” .
- “Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound…” .
- “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness…” .
Proclaim the victory of Jesus’ blood in your life. And begin praising Him now for the promise of that great day of redemption ahead. Amen!

What Are The Benefits That Flow From The Blood Of Jesus Once Your Heart Has Been Sprinkled
1. Jesus’ blood redeems us from sin and the power of darkness.
“In whom we have redemption through his blood…” . We are no longer under condemnation or fear!
A lot of people have been redeemed and justified by the blood but they don’t know it, because they live in fear and condemnation. They’ve given faith to the Lord but they haven’t entered into the glory of being justified by the blood.
They’re like a man who has built up a huge debt and can’t pay it. The man’s wealthy boss comes along and pays the bill without telling his employee then calls him in to give him the good news.
The man sits down, is handed the dossier of debts, and flips through the pages to see the list of bills he has accumulated. He thinks, “I’ll never be able to pay all this. They’re going to throw me in jail!”
When the CEO sees the man’s fearful countenance, he is perplexed. He says, “Excuse me did you look at page one?” The man flips back to the first page, which reads: “Paid in full.”
Many Christians are just like this man: They don’t know their sin has been covered, paid in full! We have to enter into that knowledge by faith in order to have the benefit which is peace with God!
2. Jesus’ blood has purchased the whole church of God.
“…feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood” .
3. Jesus’ blood breaks down all walls.
4. Jesus’ blood sanctifies us.
5. Christ’s blood overcomes Satan and puts him to flight.

The Precious Blood Of Our Lord Jesus Christ
Catholic doctrine teaches the faithful that the blood of Jesus Christ is part of His Sacred Humanity and hypostatically united to the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity. 5
And as such, it is worthy of adoration and veneration proper to latreutical worship which is rendered only to God. In other words, we adore the human nature of Christ because of its intimate and eternal union with the Person of the Divine Word.
It is for this same reason that we honor the Most Sacred Heart or the Wounds of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
In Scripture The Blood Is Spoken Of In Two Ways Blood Shed And Blood Sprinkled
Most Christians know about the blood Jesus shed for us. When Christ lifted the cup at the last Passover, He said, “…This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you” .
We memorialize His sacrifice every time we have communion. But that is the limit of most Christians’ knowledge of Jesus’ blood. We know only about the blood being shed and not about its being sprinkled!
The first biblical reference to the sprinkling of blood is in Exodus 12:22. The Israelites were commanded to take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood of a slain lamb, and sprinkle it onto the lintel and two side-posts of their front door. That night, when the death angel came and saw the blood on the door posts, he would pass over the house.
Please understand as long as the blood was left in the basin, it was of no effect it was merely blood that had been shed. The blood had power to save only when it was lifted out of the basin and sprinkled!
Why couldn’t the Israelites have simply laid the basin of blood at the threshold and said, “It doesn’t matter what we do with it. After all, blood is blood”? Suppose they had put the basin on a linen-covered table, or on a pedestal just inside the door?
I’ll tell you what would have happened: The death angel would have struck that home! The blood had to be lifted out of the basin and sprinkled on the door to fulfill its purpose of protection.

This Devotion Draws A Person Closer To Jesus And His Holy Wounds
During those times in our lives when we do not feel Gods love, it is most beneficial to meditate on Jesus crucifixion and the many wounds he suffered out of love for us. It freshens in our minds the great pain Jesus endured and the profound depth of his love.
One way to enter into Jesus Passion is to meditate on the wounds he received and the blood that poured forth from those wounds. It is an ancient devotion in the Church, one that has roots in the New Testament. For example, in the First Letter of John we read, If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin .
Here is a short guide to a beautiful devotion to Jesus Passion called the Chaplet of the Precious Blood. It contains powerful prayers that can be prayed using an ordinary rosary.
Make the sign of the cross.
On the first large bead, recite the Apostles Creed.
After that, say the following prayer:
May the Precious Blood that flows out from the Sacred Head of Our Lord Jesus Christ cover us now and forever. Amen.
For each , there is a different wound of Jesus to meditate on.
1) The Nailing of the Right Hand of Our Lord Jesus.
Say the following prayer:
Remaining on the same bead, pray an Our Father and Hail Mary.
Then on the small beads pray, Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. Save us and the whole world.
At the end of each decade pray the Glory Be.
2) The Nailing of the Left Hand of Our Lord Jesus

Precious Blood Of Jesus
Background: Jesus gave his life so that we may live and enjoy the rewards of eternal happiness in heaven. Before his cruel death on the cross, He took wine, blessed it and gave it to his disciples saying, This is my blood, the blood of the covenant that is poured out for many. This Novena honours Jesus sacrifice and the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.
O Jesus, I kneel at Thy bleeding feet pleading that you will hear me. Many graces and many mercies have come from Thy Blood. My hope lives in you, until the end of my time.
O Jesus, by Thy Precious Blood which you shed for our souls, by each drop that you shed for our redemption and by the tears of Thy Immaculate Mother, I beseech Thee and earnestly ask You to listen to my prayer:
O Jesus, who during all the days of Thy mortal life, You consoled so many sufferers, You healed so many infirmities, You raised so often a sinking courage have pity on my soul who cries to Thee from the depths of my anguish.
O Jesus, from the wounds of Thy heart, may a wave of Thy merciful blood flow and grant to me the grace that I so ardently desire.
O Jesus, hasten the moment when You will change my tears to joy and my sighs to thanksgivings.
Holy Mary, I ask you to join with me in seeking help. But, God our Father in heaven, May your will be done. Amen.

‘price Of Our Ransom Pledge Of Salvation’
One of the beautiful and mysterious features of the Catholic faith is the unfolding of its liturgical year notably, May, the month of Mary, and June, the month of the Sacred Heart.
But one of the months whose significance has been forgotten in recent times is July, the month of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus.
The devotion to Christ’s Precious Blood can be traced to the earliest days of the Church.
In A.D. 96, Pope St. Clement I of Rome, the third pope in the succession of St. Peter, wrote in the oldest extant document outside of the New Testament, “Let us fix our gaze on the Blood of Christ and realize how truly precious it is, seeing that it was poured out for our salvation and brought the grace of conversion to the whole world.”
And St. Peter himself, in his first letter, identifies the great cost of our salvation when he preached to the earliest Christians, “You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your fathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the Precious Blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.”
The devotion continued, ebbing and flowing throughout the centuries and in various locales, with the faithful continuing to remember Christ’s pain and sacrifice.
And St. Catherine of Siena, in the 15th century, spoke constantly of Christ’s Blood, even identifying herself in her many letters as “Catherine, servant and slave of the servants of Jesus Christ, write to you in His Precious Blood.”
The Most Precious Blood Of Our Lord Jesus Christ

July 1st is the Feast of the Most Precious Blood in the Traditional Liturgical Calendar. July is the month of the Most Precious Blood. This feast was instituted only in 1849, but the devotion is as old as Christianity. The early Fathers say that the Church was born from the pierced side of Christ, and that the Sacraments were brought forth through His Blood. The special beauty of this feast is its centering of our attention directly on the Blood of Christ, a short cut to the heart of revelation.
The Blood of Christ purchased our salvation and pleads for us before the throne of God, yet it is little understood or appreciated. In these days we need to think of the Passion of Christ we do not know how God is going to test us. Devotion to the Precious Blood is a fundamental, sane approach to God. It is hard and painful it will help us to steel our own hearts against weakness.
His blood redeems us. There was a price against us that we could not pay, but the blood of Jesus redeemed us. First Peter 1:18-19 says, For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
His blood cleanses. Not only does it remove the punishment of sin, it removes the pollution. I dont care what sin youve committed the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin .
