Well, its more or less impossible to talk about the season finale of Dexter: New Blood without getting into extremely major spoilers, so turn away if you have not finished season 1 yet, as were about to talk about a possible season 2.

The season finale of Dexter: New Blood sure seemed like the series finale for both this new chapter, and all the old ones. Dexters life as the Bay Harbor Butcher is uncovered by his police chief girlfriend. Harrison refuses to run with him, and gets Dexter to admit hes broken his own code, before Dexter asks his son to shoot him, rather than going on death row indefinitely once caught. He does, and Dexter is very much dead. Not TV dead, actually dead.

And yet, from what Im reading about a potential season 2 of Dexter New Blood, I can see it happening. First off, heres the showrunner Clyde Phillips, on whether hed want to do it :

Whats In Store For Harrisons Future

First of all, lets get something out of the way: Dexter, the character, is definitely not coming back. I have three words for you: Dexter is dead, Phillips added in the Deadline interview. I wouldnt do that to the audience. It would be dishonest. Here, there is no question that this is the finale of Dexter. Dexter is dead.

That said, the finale sees Harrison drive away, free to go wherever hed like, a la Jesse in the finale of Breaking Bad. Really, you could let your imagination go wild with this one. Will Harrison start his life over again, trying to make a blank slate for himself? Or is killing his father a full heel-turn moment for Harrison, and wed see even more evil-doing going forward? Lets turn to our profile of Alcott. Hes never felt this way before, Alcott said. Harrison has grown up thinking hes a monster, that theres something wrong with him. In Iron Lake, he had friends, father figures, a town that loves him. He realizes hes able to live a normal life.

With Angela distracted, Dexter kills Logan to get access to the keys he needs to escape, and speeds off in Logans police car to reach Harrison.

However, when Harrison realises his father has killed his coach, Logan, he reminds Dexter that killing a good man as collateral damage isnt part of the moral code hes supposed to live by and points a loaded gun at him.

Right before Dexter receives a fatal bullet to the chest, the shows voiceover says: Ive never felt real love until now. And after hes shot, he tells his son: You did good.
