The History Of The Feast
According to the Traditional Catholic Calendar of 1962 and prior, July 1st is the Feast of the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ. This feast was instituted for the Universal Church in 1849 by Pope Pius IX and was raised to the rank of a double of the first class by Pope Pius XI on the occasion of the nineteenth centenary of our Saviors death in 1933.
This Feast, like so many others, has fallen victim to the post-Vatican II Churchs novelties. While only established in 1849, this relatively recent feastday is worth honoring and considering after having completed the month of June, which is dedicated to the honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Devotion To The Precious Blood Of Jesus
Thanks to Bram Stokers Dracula, vampires solidified themselves as an iconic archetype in fantasy and fiction, even to this day. From the bevy of movies about Dracula to the Hotel Transylvania series to the Marvel anti-hero Morbius, vampires are present in many levels of entertainment. But while most people are familiar with the stereotypes regarding this fictional creature, are you aware of where they got their roots?
Vampires are doomed to walk in eternal death, afraid of the light because it burns them, vulnerable to crucifixes, they drink the blood of the living even though it never quenches their thirst, and you kill them by stabbing them with a wooden stake. Sound like the anti-thesis of somebody youre familiar with? Thats right: vampires were created as the embodiment of everything counter-Christian.
Jesus and His cross are their only weakness, He is the eternal light that destroys darkness, and while vampires drink blood that never quenches, Jesus provides His blood for us to have eternal life. While yes, vampires are entirely fictional and a bit silly, even their fictional existence is forced to recognize the true power of the Blood of Christ.

Indulgenced Prayer To St Joseph

The month of July is dedicated to the Precious Blood. The feast of the Precious Blood of our Lord was instituted in 1849 by Pius IX, but the devotion is as old as Christianity. The early Fathers say that the Church was born from the pierced side of Christ, and that the sacraments were brought forth through His Blood.
“The Precious Blood which we worship is the Blood which the Savior shed for us on Calvary and reassumed at His glorious Resurrection it is the Blood which courses through the veins of His risen, glorified, living body at the right hand of God the Father in heaven it is the Blood made present on our altars by the words of Consecration it is the Blood which merited sanctifying grace for us and through it washes and beautifies our soul and inaugurates the beginning of eternal life in it.”

Prayer To Our Lady Of The Most Precious Blood
O Mary, source of the Precious Blood, you are the guardian of this treasure for which my whole being yearns. The Blood of Jesus, shed in anguish and shame, the Blood which reconciles and purifies us in your keeping to be dispersed to your children as God wills.
O Mother, give to my intelligence the Blood that heals my infirmities and cancels my iniquities to my will, the generous Blood which wrought the honor of God by the greatest of immolations.
Give to my heart this spotless Blood which gives rise to holiness and to every faculty of my mind and every sense and member of my body, the indomitable courage and peace which the Passion and Death of your divine Son purchased for me. Then shall I be armed for the daily combat, and to Jesus crucified shall be given the trophies of my redemption, and by its merits, bring me, Mother, to sing its praises in eternity. Amen.

The month of July is dedicated to the Precious Blood of Jesus, a devotion that goes all the way back to the early church. In 96 AD, Pope St. Clement I wrote:
Let us fix our gaze on the blood of Christ and realize how truly precious it is, seeing that it is poured out for our salvation and brought the grace of conversion to the whole world.
The first blood sacrifice goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden when God sacrificed an animal to provide garments of skin to cover the shame of their sin. The blood sacrifice of animals continued throughout the Old Testament as the Israelites attempted to atone for sin and idolatry, but our own efforts could never breach the chasm of sin between us and the Kingdom of God. It took the perfect sacrifice of the blameless Lamb of God, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to atone for humanity. His blood poured for ours.
Here are five other ways to deepen our devotion to the Precious Blood of Jesus and pray for our families and the whole world.

Devotion Of The Month Consecrated To The Blood Of Jesuschrist
Pope Pius IX., by a Rescript of June 4, 1850, kept in the Archivium of the Congregation of Missionaries ofthe Precious Blood, granted to all thefaithful -i. An indulgence of seven years and seven quarantines, for every day of “the month consecrated to the Blood of Jesus Christ,” on whatever day themonth may begin by the custom of any public church or oratory, the condition of gaining the Indulgence being to assist at the devotion with contrition.ii.A plenary indulgence to all who shall assist at it at least ten times in the month whichthey may gain in the course of the said month, or on one of the seven daysimmediately following it, if, having Confessed and Communicated, they shall visit a church or public oratory, and pray there for atime according to the mind of the SovereignPontiff.iii. Devotion To The Precious Blood Of Christ
Devotion to the Precious Blood is connected to devotion to the Passion and Death of Our Lord, since through the sheding of His Blood, mankind was redeemed. Consequently, one can say the Church has always honored the Blood of Jesus Christ. Romans 5:9 states, we are justified by His blood, and Hebrews 13:12 states, and so Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people by His blood, suffered outside the gate. 1 John 1:7 also writes of the Precious Blood: and the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all sin.
Closer to our modern era, devotion to the Precious Blood has been greatly encouraged by Blessed Gaspar Buffalo, founder of the Congregation of the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. Pope Pius IX was exiled from Rome in 1849. A companion of Pope Pius IX was Don Giovanni Merlini, the third general of that Congregation. Don Giovanni Merlini suggested to Pope Pius IX that he make a vow to give the Feast of the Precious Blood to the entire church, if he should regain the papal territory. Pope Pius IX immediately extended it to the whole Church. The Feast of the Precious Blood is celebrated on July 1st.
